Aims and Scope

Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή Electronic Journal is an open-access, quarterly academic electronic publication with a permanent call for papers, aimed at the dissemination, discussion, and strengthening of contemporary philosophical thought and high-level interdisciplinary research. Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή is established as a plural space for critical dialogue and academic production. We are a journal deeply committed to intellectual rigour, editorial quality, and the national and international projection of philosophical-humanistic knowledge.

Open Science Policies

The Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas (UNACH) adopts diamond open access as an irrevocable principle. All scientific and humanistic journals of the institution will provide their content immediately, free of charge, and without any economic barrier for readers or authors. The charging of article processing charges (APCs) or any other fee conditioning publication is expressly prohibited. This policy ensures that the knowledge generated from Chiapas is a common good, eliminating commercial intermediation and reaffirming the social function of the public university. The economic exploitation rights will remain with the authors, and all texts will be disseminated under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) license, except in outreach journals where the variant that best facilitates the social circulation of knowledge may be chosen. In this way, UNACH aligns itself with the sovereign open science policy promoted by SECIHTI and rejects the business model that has dominated global scientific publishing.

Type of Contributions

Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή Electronic Journal receives:

a) Articles
b) Book reviews
c) Class notes
d) Miscellany

Editorial Process

The journal receives submissions on a continuous basis throughout the year, encouraging the permanent participation of researchers, teachers, graduate and undergraduate students, and independent specialists from various national and international academic institutions and research centres. Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή Electronic Journal publishes original and unpublished works in the areas of philosophy and related disciplines, particularly those linked to contemporary issues such as water, environmental crisis, indigenous peoples, territory, human rights, gender violence, education, interculturality, and other topics related to philosophical and humanistic reflection. The journal understands philosophical research as any production aimed at the critical, conceptual, historical, interpretative, or argumentative analysis of problems related to thought, culture, society, knowledge, and the human condition, also including interdisciplinary studies whose central axis maintains a theoretical and reflective foundation proper to philosophy.

The journal accepts research articles, academic essays, translations, critical reviews, and original interdisciplinary studies, preferably written in Spanish, although contributions in other academically relevant languages may also be considered. It is pertinent to note that: THE JOURNAL DOES NOT ACCEPT CONTRIBUTIONS THAT ARE CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW IN OTHER EVALUATION PROCESSES.

All publications must include an abstract, keywords, an abstract in Spanish and English (preferably), and an introduction, in order to enhance their visibility and international impact. Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή Electronic Journal adopts the Open Access System, guaranteeing free, immediate, and unrestricted access to all its contents, based on the principle that universal access to knowledge is a fundamental element for the scientific, humanistic, and cultural development of contemporary societies.

All submissions received will undergo a rigorous and transparent editorial process, which will first assess compliance with the editorial guidelines, and subsequently be academically evaluated by the Permanent Review Committee through a double-blind peer review system, ensuring at all times the anonymity of both authors and reviewers.

The reviewers will issue one of the following decisions: acceptance, acceptance with modifications, or rejection. In cases where modifications are requested as a result of the evaluation process, the authors must address the observations made and submit the corrected version within a period not exceeding ten working days from the corresponding notification. Works that do not comply with the editorial guidelines and established publication criteria will be rejected.

Anti-Plagiarism System

To ensure the originality of the texts published, Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή uses Turnitin software to verify the quality and integrity of the contributions received.

Editorial Policy on the Use of AI

In line with the guiding principles of the National System of Scientific and Humanistic Publications (SNPCyH) —knowledge as a public good, integrity, diversity, equity, and inclusion— this journal acknowledges that generative and assistive artificial intelligence (AI) tools can support the writing, editing, and review processes, provided their use is ethical, transparent, and under the responsibility of the authors, editors, and reviewers.

AI cannot replace human judgment, intellectual originality, or responsibility for the published content. Improper or undeclared use of these tools will be considered a breach of academic integrity.

Permitted Use (Conditions of Responsibility)

The use of AI tools is permitted only as technical support, always under human supervision and with explicit declaration. Acceptable uses include:

  • Grammatical, spelling, and style correction.

  • Improvement of writing in languages other than the author’s mother tongue.

  • Support in the translation of abstracts, titles, and keywords, especially to ensure multilingualism (including a national language).

  • Generation of structure or citation format suggestions, provided they are verified by the author.

  • Support in the development of public communication of knowledge resources (infographics, plain language summaries, etc.), provided this assistance is indicated.

Prohibited Uses

The following practices are not considered acceptable:

  • Including AI as a co-author or author of a manuscript. Intellectual and ethical responsibility rests exclusively with the signatory individuals.

  • Generating substantial texts, hypotheses, arguments, conclusions, or fictitious data that are not the product of human intellectual work.

  • Fabricating citations or bibliographic references (hallucinations).

  • Using AI for peer review without the express consent of the journal and without direct human supervision.

  • Concealing the use of AI at any stage of the research, writing, or editing process.

Peer Review

The editorial process is divided into two main stages to ensure the quality of contributions:

Preliminary Review (Editorial Screening):
Once the submission is received, the Organizing Committee and internal committees (such as the Editorial Committee) carry out an initial assessment to validate thematic relevance, significance, and strict compliance with the form and content guidelines. At this stage, it is verified that the article aligns with the journal’s topics (Philosophy and its relationship with other sciences) and meets the technical requirements (APA 7th edition format, length, metadata, and declaration of originality). Works that do not reach the required quality level or do not fit the journal’s objectives may be rejected outright.

External Peer Review (Double-Blind):
Manuscripts that pass the first phase undergo an external peer review process under the double-blind modality, where the identity of both authors and reviewers is kept strictly anonymous.

Assignment of Reviewers and Evaluation Criteria

Reviewer Profile: Each research article, critical note, or debate is evaluated by at least two specialists external to the publishing institution to ensure the impartiality and objectivity of the review.

Evaluation Criteria: The reviews are based on the originality of the approach, theoretical and methodological soundness, clarity of exposition, and the novel contribution to current philosophical or humanistic literature.

Resolution of Discrepancies: For a work to be published, it generally requires two positive reviews. In the event of a marked discrepancy between the first two reviewers (for example, one “accepted” and one “rejected” review), a third reviewer’s report will be requested to break the tie and make a final, non-appealable decision.

Right of Reply: The journal recognizes the authors’ right to intellectual independence, and in the event of receiving a negative evaluation, they are granted the right of reply to defend their arguments.

Ethics and Confidentiality in Evaluation

Confidentiality: Committee members and reviewers are obliged to maintain absolute confidentiality regarding the texts received. No reviewer may use data, arguments, or interpretations from unpublished works for their own research without express permission.

Conflicts of Interest: Reviewers must decline the review if they detect any personal, professional, or institutional ties with the author, or if the work is closely related to research they themselves are currently developing.

Integrity and Plagiarism Detection: During the review process, originality is strictly monitored, and tools are used to detect plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or data manipulation. Likewise, it is verified that the author declares any use of Artificial Intelligence in the preparation of the manuscript.

Publication Frequency

The journal Miscelánea Filosófica αρχή is committed to managing the edition within reasonable timeframes. The evaluation process may take an average of six months from receipt to the communication of the final decision. In cases of discussions on articles already published in the journal, an expedited review process may be applied.

Note: This policy applies rigorously to Research Articles, Reflection Articles, Discussions, and Dossiers; the Miscellany section is exempt from this peer review process as it is of an informative nature.

Quarterly publication (every 4 months)

Digital Preservation and Open Data Policy

The preservation of the scientific heritage is a long-term institutional responsibility. All journals will be integrated into distributed digital preservation systems such as LOCKSS or CLOCKSS, ensuring that the contents survive technical failures, cyberattacks, or platform changes. Complementarily, UNACH requires authors to deposit the research datasets that support their publications in the institutional open data repository, except in cases where there are ethical, privacy, or traditional knowledge protection restrictions of indigenous communities. This open data policy promotes reproducibility, verification of results, and the reuse of knowledge, in accordance with SECIHTI guidelines for a more collaborative and transparent science.
